Dirang is 42 km away from Bomlia, Dirang is located in the West Kemang district of Arunachal Pradesh in India. Dirang is a small village in Arunachal and its in midway between Tezpur and Tawang, Tawang is a really popular tourist destination. you cant travel to Tawang in one day because the journey is really long so a lot of people stop in Dirang. There are a couple of tourist attractions in Dirang, the first one is Dirang Dzong basically the Dirang Fort, so apparently here you will find some houses 500 600 years old, you can visit a wonderful monastery named Thupsung Dhargye Ling Monastery. Major Tribes of Dirang is Buddhist.
Explore the local house explore some of the traditional handlooms and the process of dying, although they are a tad bit expensive, you can buy these local handlooms if you like, in fact some of these costumes were almost 200 years old,which have been passed down in the family over generations, this are one for sale. In Dirang there is a place name Mandala 30km away from Dirang, it is a paradise for bird watcher because it is a popular bird watching destination, Bird watchers and wildlife enthusiasts from around the world come here for bird watching specially in winter. near by there is Sangti Valley 7km down from Mandala which is famous for its fruits orchards. here you can have peaceful walk and sit near the stream and enjoy the beauty of nature. if you are planning a short trip then try Dirang as your visiting destination, stay for at least two days in dirang and explore the region around here.
Places to Visit:
Thupsung Dhargye Ling Monastery
This new gompa was completed in 2016 and visit by dalai lama on 2017. Like all morden Tibetan monasteries, this too is very colorful and is decorated with several intricate designs.You can sit and meditate for some time at this prayer hall which is the centrepiece of the monastery. Every morning at 6, there is a prayer ceremony here which you can attend and learn about the practices of Mahayana Buddhism by interacting with the monks. Since this monastery is located at a strategic location on top of a hill, it can easily be spotted from across Dirang. You can stand on top here and enjoy the panoramic view of the entire Dirang town.
Dirang Dzong(fort)
Dirang Dzong is located right on the highway and when you are entering Dirang, it's on right side. Estimats suggest that the houses here are at least 500 to 600 years old. And people still live in thee cold-proof ancient houses. This used to be a fort and they used to keep prisoners here.
Mandala
It is a popular bird watching destination, Bird watchers and wildlife enthusiasts from around the world come here for bird watching specially in winter.
Sangti Valley
Sangti Valley which is famous for its fruits orchards. here you can have peaceful walk and sit near the stream and enjoy the beauty of nature.
Hot Water Spring
About a kilometer or two from the main town of Dirang, you can visit the natural Hot Water Springs. This place is accessible by climbing down about 200 steps from the main road. These natural Sulphur water springs are considered to be a holy place, and the water itself is known to have medicinal properties.
How to Reach
The nearest airport is Guwahati which is 300 – 380 km away (depending on the route you take). The nearest railway station is Tezpur in Assam. you can find many shared Tata Sumos plying between Guwahati/Tezpur to Dirang. It may be overcrowded at times, or hire a private cab.
Important Note
Entry to Arunachal Pradesh is allowed only if you have an Inner Line Permit (for Indians residing outside of Arunachal Pradesh), and Protected Area Permit for foreign nationals. You can apply for ILP online at http://arunachalilp.com/ for Rs 100 or you can apply by visiting Deputy Commissioner’s Office at Guwahati, Delhi, Kolkata, Shillong and other major cities in Assam. If you apply online, it takes about 2-3 working days to get the permit, and one day after you pay the fee to receive the soft copy of the ILP. You can also get a permit at the Bhalukpong entry gate, but it takes about 2-3 hours (sometimes more) to get the permit.
