Champhai, Mizoram

The town of Champhai on the eastern border of Mizoram close to the Indo-Myanmar border is the administrative headquarters of the Champhai district. It is located at a distance of 188 Km from the capital of Aizawl and is strategically and commercially important for the state of Mizoram as well as for India.

Champhai and its surrounding regions are primarily known for their natural beauty and vast valleys of rice fields. It is known as the 'Rice Bowl of Mizoram' due to being a significant region of rice cultivation. Also, its vibrant seasonal orchids lend it a certain romanticism and aesthetic appeal.

Champhai has a number of tourist attractions mostly including natural settings. These include a cave called the Kungawrhi Puk, a river named Tiau Lui, Lianchhiari Lunglen Tlang, and a few more. Rih Dil Lake is another famous natural attraction known to Champhai and Mizoram. Adventure enthusiasts can indulge in some trekking at the Thasiama Seno Neihna which is about 83 Km south of Champhai.

AROUND CHAMPHAI

Champhai is 27km from Zokhawthar, the border township where the Indo-Myanmar trade is conducted. Hence, shopping can be a rewarding experience here.

The Murlen National Park, known for hoolock gibbon, is also nearby. The Lengteng Wildlife Sanctuary near Murlen National Park abounds in flora and fauna and one can spot tigers, leopards, sambar, goral, and serow here.

Five kilometers away from Champhai is the Ruantlang village where glimpses of the ancestral way of life of the Mizos can still be seen. Close by is the Rih Dil lake (situated in Myanmar), which is closely associated with Mizo culture. The many myths about this lake have been a source of inspiration for several Mizo writers and music composers.

By Train

The nearest train station from Champhai is Bairabi which is located at a distance of about 300 km from Champhai. After deboarding at the station, you must hire a taxi or a bus to reach here. You can avail of transportation services from -

You can also traverse to Champhai via road networks and depending upon the route taken, the hours to reach here can differ.
