COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT IN TOURISM

Joramukhuria forest village is situated in the heart of Chandubi lake, around which tourism practices are centered. It consists of approximately 20 odd families who particularly belong to the Rabha community.

Livelihood pattern – The families are mostly dependent on boating in the lake, thereby engaging in tourism-related works. They also till the land for the production of food crops to meet their own family requirement. However, the scope of subsistence agriculture is quite narrow. The households are own livestock but the level of earning through this is marginal, hence doesn’t count much.

Engagement of the local people in developing the tourism industry

Almost all members from all the families work here as boatmen. Their source of livelihood is boating and some other tourism-related activities like cleaning the site (as often the people leave their garbage in massive quantity), opening a small shop to sell some homemade and natural raw product, guiding tourist, and helping them arrange food and lodging, etc. they villagers live in a very peaceful environment. They are very happy to work for the people visiting the site. There is also the Joramukhuria stream in this village; people also pay a visit to it very often. Thus the local people are engaged and trying to develop the tourism industry at Chandubi. The local people do all the work themselves as far the tourism is concerned.
